Not all storms come to disrupt your life. Some
come to clear your path.
A wise person once said, “Storms are a part of life. We’re either entering one, in the middle of one, or coming out of one.” That’s just the tough reality of our existence. The thing is, while storms come and often destroy what’s in its path, sometimes it’s doing us more good than we realize at the time. Here are 4 ways storms benefit our lives:
The worst thing you can do is give up when you’re going through tough times. So often we despise lowly beginnings or forget that even the smallest steps still get us where we need to be. Deciding to push through the ‘no’s’, the disappointments, the grief, or whatever comes to knock you down, builds character and strength to survive the next inevitable storm that comes your way.
Sometimes it seems the trials we face and overcome serve no great purpose in our own lives. We don’t feel any stronger or any wiser and it doesn’t seem like our situations changed for the better. However, it’s been seen time and time again that at some point in our lives, we go through things to show others it can be done, overcome, or as a cautionary tale. Think of all the historical figures who’ve gone before us and set precedence in industries all across the spectrum. Even our parents likely have stories of struggle and of how they overcome that they’ve shared to help us in our own lives. If we aren’t sharing our knowledge with others, we’re not fulfilling our lives’ purpose.
Saves Us from Trouble
Have you ever had a day where it seemed like everything that could go wrong, did? Your alarm didn’t go off, you spilled coffee on your shirt then caught a flat tire which all caused you to to hit rush hour traffic and arrive late to work. When you only pay attention to the series of unfortunate events, it’s hard to think about the positive side of things. Perhaps you needed just a few more minutes of sleep and your late start saved you from the 10-car pile up that you would’ve been a part of had you left at your regular time. Sometimes the “bad” things aren’t happening to you, they’re happening for you.
Provides Opportunity to Rebuild
Hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis; these are all types of storms that have the power to rip through land or sea and demolish everything in their paths. Towns have been devastated because of these natural disasters and have had to clean up the mess and start over as a result. Our personal storms can have the same effect; they make us clean up and start over again. Rebuilding isn’t always a chore though, it’s literally a chance to start anew and create something better that there was before. Embrace the opportunity to start fresh.
For as long as we live, storms are going to come. Some hit harder than others and some we may never truly understand why they landed in our lives. They may force us to be still and endure while others require us to fight and come out stronger for the next battle ahead. The important thing to remember is that every storm serves a purpose and some leave bigger blessings than messes.
